🏉 Luctonians Colts 40 – 33 Bridgnorth Colts 🏉
A game of two halves… or perhaps two-thirds and one-third!
A slow start saw us trail 33–7 at half-time, with Joseph Jackson grabbing our only try of the opening period. We afforded Luctonians far too much time and space, allowing them to attack without putting them under enough pressure.
An unfortunate injury to Louie Nutting, we wish him a speedy recovery.
We needed some help in the front row, with Luctonians kindly lending us a prop so we could continue with contested scrums. A great example of rugby spirit! 👏
A period of early Bridgnorth pressure in the second half paid off, as Albert, the loaned Lucton prop, went over from a 5m tap penalty. Lucton quickly got one back, to take their lead to 40-12, before we actually started to play.
With 20 mins remaining, we finally started to secure our ball at the lineout and string some phases together. Hugo Rhodes finished off a great bit of play to run in under the posts, capping a great Colts debut.
Adam Lamb topped off a hard working display with a try between the sticks. One more try, again from Albert, brought us within 7 pts, but we couldn't quite make the late pressure count. Maybe with another 5 mins we might have managed to draw level.
The lesson from today? We simply can't afford to give good teams a head start. The challenge now is to do that from the first whistle, not just the last 20 minutes!
Plenty to work on, but also plenty of positives to take away from that final third.

A frustrating result, but a fantastic fightback. Next time, let's try playing for the full 70 minutes! 🏉
