Coventry Welsh RFC

17 - 29

(HT 0-0)

Bridgnorth RFC
With both teams eager to start the season on a win, the match promised high pace and intense play, and both teams did not disappoint.
Coventry Welsh attempted a first strike under the posts but were held up, followed shortly by Bridgnorth’s Ruth Harper winning the first points of the match after a strong counter by Bridgnorth to a misjudged kick from Coventry Welsh, converted by Chloe Meyrick.
It became clear as the match progressed that both teams struggled to play well off of restarts, often creating turmoil in the midfield, with both eager to take advantage of the mess.
The home side took advantage of a loose ball in Bridgnorth’s half and scored, the feeling now … ‘game on’.
Bridgnorth scored a second time through their Captain Lindsey Garraway, after attacking off a Coventry Welsh exit play. This is soon followed by a home side score just before half time.
Bridgnorth start the second half with three points off the boot of their scrumhalf Chloe Meyrick, though shortly followed by a Coventry Welsh try- the game a continuous battle for the next score.
Another shaky restart by the home side sees Bridgnorth capitalise and score under the posts through Lea, converted by Meyrick. And after a series of scrum steals by the Bridgnorth pack, Harper scored another for the away side, converted by Meyrick - solidifying the away side lead.
Both teams played with high tempo, Coventry Welsh taking advantage of Bridgnorth errors, whilst the away side, off the back of scrum dominance and team interplay, earned their right to their first win of the season.
