Many of you will be aware that The Committee of our club successfully applied for a grant from Sport England (SE) to assist in our recovery from the floods last winter – specifically to repair our sacred EDG pitch and the surrounding area. The RFU equally supported us to this end (being a grant of £10,000 from each body). We are extremely grateful for this support, especially taking into account what has happened since then!

Whilst Bridgnorth Rugby Club will always show appreciation for the hard work and long hours devoted by our fantastic volunteers, it was great to receive the following comments from SE, when we recently sent in our end of project report:

“These photographs are just brilliant, thank you so much for sending.  I couldn’t believe the videos of the flooding, everyone clearly worked so hard to get the project finished.  Great to see it all looking so good now.”

And from our Directors:

“Well done for achieving such a wonderful outcome from a very dark period when Nature delivered such a blow to our facilities. The work done to get back to where we are now is absolutely outstanding.  Keeping SE informed, and such a warm response from them too, shows the high regard, not just we in the Club have for the efforts of our members but also that this is appreciated by a wider audience among the people who can give us real support in the future.

Well done to all of you.” James Graham

And from our President:

“A great outcome resulting from all the hard work undertaken by the BRFC team after the floods. Thanks SE and of course to all you guys, onwards and upwards we go!” Alun Stoll

And from our Chairman

“The seemingly never ending commitment of a number of our member volunteers is to be so cherished, although the last 9 months has certainly tested them, not only because of the devastating damage caused by the serious floods back in February and March of this year, but because of the on-going pandemic.  So, it is quite delightful to receive such a supportive written statement from SE, which I and the rest of the Committee of BRFC fully endorse; in summary, our team of volunteers are quite excellent & they must surely be the envy of North Midlands !  I am sincerely grateful to every member volunteer who has given up their precious time to help our Club during perhaps the most difficult time in our 58 year history.  We will soon be entering a new phase in our history, when hopefully we will receive the applied for planning permissions to build our new facilities.  So, although we have been suffering/continue to suffer a very difficult period, especially now all league rugby has been cancelled for the remainder of the 2020/2021 season, we have much to look forward to.  I would urge you all to start thinking of ways to help us fund raise to enable us to build our new facilities. Karen Sawbridge
