Committee Statement – Edgar Davies Pitch

The Committee would like to update members regarding the use of the Edgar Davies Ground (EDG) for training and commercial activities.

To help protect and preserve the excellent playing surface at EDG, all senior and junior training sessions, including touch rugby, will take place on Severn Park unless otherwise advised. Training areas at Severn Park will be marked out accordingly.

This approach will significantly reduce the wear caused by studded boots and repeated close-contact, high-impact drills, helping to keep the EDG pitch in the best possible condition for matches throughout the season. We appreciate everyone's support in following this arrangement.

The Edgar Davies Pitch is one of the Club's most valuable assets, and protecting its quality remains a priority. We understand that some members have raised concerns regarding commercial use of the pitch, particularly where vehicle access may be involved.

Every request for commercial use is carefully considered before approval is given. The Committee assesses the potential impact on the playing surface to ensure any use is appropriate, limited and managed responsibly. We remain committed to safeguarding the pitch and ensuring it is not overused.

Commercial activities provide an important source of income for the Club. Every pound generated is reinvested into rugby, helping to fund the ongoing maintenance and improvement of our playing facilities, support our teams across all age groups, and contribute towards the running and upkeep of our fantastic clubhouse. This additional income helps ensure that Bridgnorth Rugby Club remains financially sustainable while continuing to provide high-quality facilities and opportunities for current and future generations of players.

Where minor remedial work is required following an event, the Committee is satisfied that the cost and effort involved are significantly outweighed by the financial benefit generated. Any necessary repairs are carried out promptly to maintain the high standard of the pitch.

The Committee would also like to thank Dez and Dan Shotton of Shotton Landscapes & Sportfields Ltd for their hard work, expertise and ongoing dedication in maintaining our playing surfaces to such a high standard.

The Committee will continue to strike a careful balance between generating valuable income for the Club and safeguarding the Edgar Davies Pitch for the enjoyment of current and future generations of players.

We thank all members for their continued support and remain committed to acting in the best interests of Bridgnorth Rugby Club.
